One thing Pixar doesn’t do much of is the slapstick humor. They leave that up to most Dreamworks movies, such as the upcoming Monsters Vs. Aliens.
The humor portion is made clear by the hand, foot, tongue, elbow and butt scans required to get into the Presidential bunker and the human characters are all charicatures, from the screaming general and the useless President. We’re then introduced to all of the motley crew of monsters.
The trailer is nonstop gags, and while the trailer is cute, it doesn’t hold the depth that the first Shrek movie and the more recent Kung Fu Panda held. I’m sure there will be subtle jokes that exist as easter eggs for the parents that have to accompany their kids, but for the most part, Monsters and Aliens looks like it’s firmly in the children’s movie category.
Monsters vs. Aliens releases on March 27th, 2009.
